Alcatraz Versus The Evil Librarians
by Brandon Sanderson
|
Alcatrz versus the evil librarians was a very exciting and comedic read.It was very exciting and the author speaking at the beginning of each chapter served as relief for the nonstop suspense.Though this book is not very realistic I enjoyed it a lot. In this book, Alcatraz Smedry is an orphan who has to be moved from home to home because of his unique tendency to break things. He is at his current foster families house when a package arrives in his mail that says it is is inheritance.Inside he finds a bag of sand.More trouble ensues when a man claiming to be his grandfather comes, who later saves him from a gunman. It is then realized that Alcatraz's inheritance had been stolen and they must go to the library to retrieve it. -Review by Joseph , Age 12

The Detention Club
by David Yoo
|
I really enjoyed this book, not only because it was a very lively and entertaining novel, but because a lot of people who remember their transition from elementary to middle school can relate to it.This is a simple and great book and I recommend it to anyone 4th through 8th grade. While Peter and Drew's plans that they concocted to regain their popularity are fictional, the concept is not. While you may not see a physical change in the main characters at the end,an inner change is obvious in Sunny, Drew, the Sweet brothers, and Peter. They understand that they are outcasts, but not to each other.I believe that they finally realize they are not alone as long as they have each other and this is a lesson a lot of the people in the real world still have to learn. -Review by Joseph, Age 12

The Looking Glass Wars
by Frank Beddor
|
I thought that The Looking Glass Wars was a very good book. The characters were unique but relatable and the setting, both in Wonderland and in the real world, was extremely creative and imaginative but not so fantastical that it wasn't believable. I loved the way the author completely changed the classic tale of Alice and her adventures in Wonderland into Alyss Heart's quest to reclaim her spot on the throne as the Queen of Wonderland. Over all i thought that this was an entertaining, and exciting book. The Looking Glass Wars is about young Alyss Heart, princess and heir to the throne of Wonderland, who has to flee her queendom into our world because of her evil aunt Redd. After more than ten years of living in London she finds herself back in Wonderland, and the inspiration to a rebellion. From there Alyss and the Alyssians (the rebel group) fight their way back to the throne of Wonderland, presumably defeating the rouge queen Redd in the process. -Review by Elisa, Age 15

Eon: Dragoneye Reborn
by Alison Goodman
|
I was a very good book and I loved it. Had a lot of epic fantasy and a wonderful climax. Eon, actually Eona, wants to become the rat dragoneye, the user of it's power, but instead becomes the mirror dragoneye, but does not know how to use it's power -Review by Katy, Age 12
